The Celtics, an Indo-European people aren’t a widely known group and their beliefs even less. Some of their holiday traditions have been absorbed such as celebration of summer’s end, the mother of Halloween, Samhain. Originally, Samhain marks the Celtic new year. The tradition is marked by the harvesting and preparation of meat and crops. Ancestors are honored with offerings of food and drink, the remainder is given to the poor. Celtics celebrate by feast and sacred fires. Finally, the dressing in animal heads to ward off evil spirits, which is the historical background of dressing in costumes for Halloween.
